• Plant color needs time to fully develop because the pigments must undergo a natural oxidation process to set & deepen the color.

Unlike chemical dyes that force pigment into the hair shaft immediately, plant dyes overlay the hair cuticle requiring air exposure to fully reveal final color.

  • Waiting 48-72 hours to wash or use hair products on hair post plant color allows the pigments to fully oxidize, settle & lock into the hair cuticle ensuring maximum longevity. You can disrupt the final color by doing so. Wetting your hair with water can also interfere with the final result - it jacks with the PH.

  • Maybe! A green tint after herbal hair color may seem scary and weird, but it’s completely normal. The green undertone is sometimes visible on white/light/bleached hair. The green cast will naturally fade as the pigments complete their oxidation process. Usually takes a few hours or days, until the color stabilizes.

  • Herbal dyes will camouflage grays and provide a blendy result. This means that white and gray hair will result in a slightly lighter color that looks like highlights, rather than a solid color. This creates a more natural looking grow out without a stark line of demarcation.

  • Yes. Henna and plant colors are pure and will not negatively impact chemically processed hair. In fact, it will improve the condition of your hair.

  • I use pure plant dyes free from metallic salts, so it’s totally safe to use chemical/synthetic colors after using plant color.

(Metallic salts in some henna/plant hair products are the main cause of adverse reactions with chemical dyes)

Bleach, on the other hand is a bit more tricky. I advise against it especially if you’ve used cool shades containing indigo.

Bleaching after using plant color will most likely lead to unpredictable discoloration. If you still wish to proceed, I recommend you work with an experienced colorist & take a cautious, gradual approach.

  • Plant color is permanent & fades gradually over time like chemical color.

  • Yes. However, I recommend you confirm with your midwife/doctor to be certain that they allow it because every pregnancy is different.

Henna & Ayurvedic herbs are a great alternative for pregnant women to use since chemicals should be avoided during pregnancy and when breastfeeding.

I do not offer medical advice or make any medical claims.

  • Yes, you can be allergic to henna and plant color herbs even though the plant color is 100% natural. Just like you can be allergic to fruits or nuts, same goes for plant color.

To rule it out, you could do a patch test on your inner arm.
